Sylvain Cormier is a Moncton-based entrepreneur who has transformed a lifelong passion for sports cards into a career built on resilience, community, and trust. As a teenager, he spent countless hours at his local TCG store, immersed in sports cards and Magic: The Gathering, often helping friends figure out whether their trades were fair. Before returning to cards as an adult, he explored other ventures, from flipping video games in his early 20s to hosting an Airbnb in his early 30s, but re-entering the hobby during the pandemic marked a real shift. For the first time, he set a clear goal: to one day work in the hobby full time.

Within two months of setting up his eBay seller profile, Sylvain had already become a top seller. In 2021 he focused exclusively on eBay, before expanding to shows in 2022, both locally and in Toronto. From the beginning, his focus was on delivering the best possible customer experience, from meticulously packaging every eBay order with care, to ensuring that every buyer, seller, or trade partner at shows felt respected and valued. For Sylvain, a good customer experience is non-negotiable, and it is the foundation of the success he has tasted so far.

In January 2023, Sylvain became a Slab Sharks affiliate, a role that quickly grew as he helped expand the platform’s reach and strengthen its network of collectors. By 2024, he was named Director of Affiliates for Eastern Canada, where he continues to build partnerships and support consignors across the region. His experiences were also featured on the Hockey Cards Gongshow podcast, where his Confessions of a Card Dealer segments gave collectors an unfiltered look at the highs and lows of life in the hobby. Through these appearances, he became known for sharing lessons that resonate with dealers and collectors alike, from the importance of humility and discipline, to the power of relationships over speculation.

In October 2024, Sylvain took the leap into the hobby full time, a decision that was both exhilarating and humbling. Just months later, in the first quarter of 2025, he faced a major setback that forced him to pause buying and selling, testing his resolve and sharpening his instincts. Instead of stepping back, he adapted, focusing on representing Slab Sharks at shows, supporting collectors with grading, and building sustainable momentum for the future.

In May 2025, Sylvain became a representative for PSA Platinum Dealer CYG (Choose Your Grading), strengthening his role in grading services and expanding the options available to collectors in Eastern Canada. This step added another layer to his commitment to serving the hobby with transparency and professionalism.

Today, Sylvain is excited to add Private Collection Insurance as another brand he represents at shows, reflecting his belief that protecting collections is as important as building them. He continues to be a fixture in the fast-growing Maritimes show scene, while also exploring opportunities to help bring a large-scale event to Atlantic Canada. His story is one of resilience, adaptability, and purpose, a reminder that the true value of the hobby lies not only in cards, but in the people, trust, and communities that surround them.
